While getting her degree in math from the University
of Michigan Anna joined Amazin' Blue, a newly-formed co-ed a cappella
group. When she joined as a freshman, the group had their first concert
in a small hall, selling about 150 tickets. At the end of that year,
10 members of the group graduated or left, leaving only Anna and Sarah
Jackson to lead the group, or the group would cease to exist.
Sarah
became
the business
manager,
and Anna became the musical director.
Over the next three years, Amazin' Blue recorded
albums, went on tour, and performed wherever they could. By Anna's
senior year, the group had won national awards for their albums and
for Anna's arrangements, and was consistently selling out a 1200 seat
auditorium.
After graduating, Anna wrote a book on a cappella arranging,"The
Collegiate A Cappella Arranging Manual," which was first published
in 1995, and republished by Hal Leonard in 2000. It is currently available
through various a cappella sites as well as Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
For a number of years Anna was also one of
four arrangers in UAAS, an international service
providing arrangements for both a cappella and accompanied vocal groups.
